Okay, so here’s my idea for a fighting game similar to Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat and those kinds of games:
In the distant future, the world’s most popular sport is Dream Fighting. In it, two people fall asleep with their brains connected to each other through an extremely complex machine that shows their shared dreams projected above them as a gigantic hologram. But that’s not all the machine does, it also forces rules on their dream logic so that they both have to fight each other (in the dream) using an extremely small amount of imagination. Still, even with that tiny amount, their battles are always amazing, because they can attack each other in ways that aren’t even remotely possible in real life. You play as one of eight dream-fighting athletes whose subconscious fighting styles and appearance are directly influenced by their individual habits, personalities, and lifestyles.
I haven’t really thought of any characters yet, but I’m thinking that they could all be representations of what different cultures view as the perfect human being. So for instance, the American character would (subconsciously) be super manly, super strong, and super rich and materialistic, but having come from a very humble background (sort of like a rags to riches/American dream kind of thing). Meanwhile, the characters from other countries would be completely different.
Alternately, they could all be based on different genres of movies such as SciFi, Fantasy, Western, Pirate, Spy, or whatever.
Any ideas, anybody?
